Beginning of September feels just like the beginning of the year and I always think of doing something new or different.
My first choice is often education, since it is the beginning of the new school year and more institutions offer classes that will help me my artistic and personal development. I checked OCAD (http://www.ocadu.ca/programs/continuing_studies.htm) for their Saturday courses and I found that the "Portraiture fundamentals" course is offered this fall. I want to take this course as I never did any formal sculpting and the idea of this course is very appealing to me. The course starts with 3 classes of sculpting of a human head and then 3 classes of drawing.
Unfortunately I realized that I cannot take any Saturday courses due to the recording session in October for the new CD with Mississauga Festival Choir. I also find the weekday courses very tiring as I would need to go to these classes right after work with practically no dinner and get home very late. Sunday courses for some reason are in the middle of the day between lunch and dinner which will not allow me to make a good use of the day. I need to wait for some courses that start in October and November to apply for. I will be keeping an eye on it.
Meantime I decided to also check the courses on Coursera (https://www.coursera.org/) and the course that I found interesting was "Introduction to Art: Concepts & Techniques" from PennState University, however it was not currently offered. I put this one on my 'to watch for' list as well.
What grabbed my attention was the course "Dino 101: Dinosaur Paleobiology" through University of Alberta, because of their innovative approach to University education and on-line courses. After giving it some deeper thought I realized that I have way too many projects going on right now and that I should not try to commit to a minimum of 5-10 hours a week to study. The course will give me new and interesting knowledge, but I cannot see how can I apply this knowledge in the near future. Needless to say, I did not sign up.
After making my mind about my education for the next month I sat down on the sofa in a quiet living room. What did I want to do? Ahh, yes! My projects.
I took a piece of paper and I wrote them down:
1. Website! Website! Website!
2. Art!
3. Practice for the Choir recording and concert.
4. More leisure reading
5. Start to eat healthier
6. Post Ireland pictures
7. Work on my book that I try to write for a few years now.
So today was the day I decided my sum up the last couple of weeks of my progress in my projects and resolutions. The summary came down to baking. Muffins and scones so far, but they are coming out tasty.
The message of my blog for today is that if the primary ideas for new start resolutions cannot be implemented, then just do what feels best! :)
And yeah... I'll get to my projects one day... Still procrastinating...
