Verona and Como - Mississauga Festival Choir Europe Tour 2017

First, a quick stop at Verona.  A place is most famous for the Juliette's balcony, but there is more to offer.  We actually skipped the overrated balcony tour that lead through Verona's shopping district, and took a stroll through less known parts of the city.

The most interesting place that I was able to see in Verona was the oldest still standing amphitheater. It is still in use and one can see an open air opera while sitting on the ancient stone.

A less known landmark of the original city gates is now resounded by a 'more modern' buildings.

After a pizza lunch we were off again to Lake Como, the third largest Lake in Italy, and one of the deepest in Europe. The inverted Y shape lake cuts deep into the Alps providing spectacular views of the mountains.

Steep bunks of the lake provide unique and secluded getaways for the rich such as movie and music stars.  Many of the villas had been also purchased by Russian politicians and oligarchs.  This includes the famous from James Bond villa.

Quick stop in Bellagio before returning back to Como for afternoon choir performance.

Como is definitively a place that needs more time to explore. Hoping to visit it again sometime.

Go South

Before the summer ends there is always the nostalgia about the warm weather and sun.  One then feels about going south.  Some people go to Cuba or Bahamas to feel the heat when the nights are getting longer. This trip was about going to a Southern most part of Canada. First stop - Pelee Point.  The southern most point of mainland Canada extending into the lake Erie. We drove first all the way to the visitors center and enjoyed a picnic lunch. Then we set off walking from there to the tip. On the way we were passed by people riding bikes, but also a shuttles that were going back and forth between the visitors center and the entrance to the tip. When we got there we found that there were lots of people visiting the tip, and also it does not matter how many messages there are about strong currents the people still need to step in the water with kids and all. From there we walked back to the car and drove up to the marsh where a boardwalk took us between t...

New Years Resolutions

Beginning of September feels just like the beginning of the year and I always think of doing something new or different. My first choice is often education, since it is the beginning of the new school year and more institutions offer classes that will help me my artistic and personal development.  I checked OCAD ( http://www.ocadu.ca/programs/continuing_studies.htm ) for their Saturday courses and I found that the "Portraiture fundamentals" course is offered this fall.  I want to take this course as I never did any formal sculpting and the idea of this course is very appealing to me.  The course starts with 3 classes of sculpting of a human head and then 3 classes of drawing. Unfortunately I realized that I cannot take any Saturday courses due to the recording session in October for the new CD with Mississauga Festival Choir.  I also find the weekday courses very tiring as I would need to go to these classes right after work with practically no dinner and get...
