CD Recording

This passed Friday and Saturday with Mississauga Festival Choir I completed my first ever recording of a CD.  We were preparing for this moment since June with extra choir practices, listening to the music every day in the car, and yes I was also practicing signing while driving to work.  Preparations also included countless tries on the piano to make sure I get the correct pitch and timing.

Monday of the recording I caught some nasty cold and by Wednesday I still felt that bed is the best place for me to fight the cold off.  I was disappointed that after spending so much time preparing for the recording mentally and physically I would need to call in that I cannot make it.  I also gave the cold to my husband who was also supposed to record with the Choir.  To my surprise both of us felt a little better on Thursday and felt like we can record on Friday. :-)

Our Studio

Runnymede United Church has been designed by R.B. McGiffin and constructed in 1927.  The church provided great caustics for our recording and we are thankful for the generosity of the church to allow us to do the recording there. (http://www.runnymedeunited.org)

Both Friday and Saturday were very busy, but filled with lots of fun. On Saturday we also sang for the first time with instruments other than piano.  Our music included an organ, violin and cello, piano, harp, timpani and brass instruments such as:  trumpets, trombones and tuba (I think I got them all).

Recording was a lot of work and it was very tiring. It was not easy to stand there almost motionless in order to make no other sounds than singing and keeping constant focused attention to make sure I am not the one that makes a mistake.   All this tension had been exhausting ,but I believe everyone enjoyed the experience.
I'm looking forward to be able to hear the recording :-)

CDs will be available for purchase during the concert on Saturday, December 7th.  We also plan to have them available on iTunes for purchase.

Go South

Before the summer ends there is always the nostalgia about the warm weather and sun.  One then feels about going south.  Some people go to Cuba or Bahamas to feel the heat when the nights are getting longer. This trip was about going to a Southern most part of Canada. First stop - Pelee Point.  The southern most point of mainland Canada extending into the lake Erie. We drove first all the way to the visitors center and enjoyed a picnic lunch. Then we set off walking from there to the tip. On the way we were passed by people riding bikes, but also a shuttles that were going back and forth between the visitors center and the entrance to the tip. When we got there we found that there were lots of people visiting the tip, and also it does not matter how many messages there are about strong currents the people still need to step in the water with kids and all. From there we walked back to the car and drove up to the marsh where a boardwalk took us between the cattails fo

Rome - Mississauga Festival Choir Europe Tour 2017

All roads lead to Rome. First settling in just outside of the Vatican City and then an evening stroll through the streets.  Crossed via Ponte Sant'Angelo to the other side of the Tiber River. Snapped a pic of Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II and the St. Peter's Basilica in the background. The tall banks of the Tiber River were created to ensure the city is safe from flooding.  The water levels of the river were at all time low. One of the reasons we decided not to take a river cruise later during our stay. Piazza Navona and the Fontana dei Fiumi representing 4 rivers of the 4 continents. (Australia is missing possibly because no Papal authority there at the time.) On the way back, the view of the Castel Sant'Angelo where the Pope could take refuge in case of an attack (Originally a malsoleum of a Roman Emperor Hadrian) The next day of course a trip to the oldest part of the city... the ancient ruins of the Colosseum... And the forum (or
