Bologna and Florence - Mississauga Festival Choir Europe Tour 2017

Bologna, also called by some a food capital of Italy. This short stop allowed us to enjoy the city by walking around the narrow alleys.




We run into some market stores on the way to a restaurant. Meets, cheeses and fish set outside of the stores made the alleys even narrower.



 Of course we tried the local specialty Ragu ala Bologense for lunch before leaving the city and heading towards Florence (In Italian Firenze).

First stop in Florence was the Palazzo Medici Riccardi (Home to the Medici banking family) and the orange trees in the garden.


The walking tour also took us to the Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore. Construction of the cathedral was begun in 1296. The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink bordered by white.



We did not stop into the cathedral, but moved towards the river and the old bridge.  It is the only bridge in the city that was not destroyed during WWII. The bridge continues to feature stores of local goldsmiths, just as it was centuries ago.



After the quick walking tour of the city, we went up onto one of the local hills for some dinner and enjoyed the excellent views of the city as well as the Giardino Berdini park.


Mississauga Festival Choir had also a performance in Florence in a 17th century, baroque style, Church of San Firenze.


Ended the day with a nice dinner at a local restaurant.

From Vienna we drove into the Alps.  It was fun watching the mountains growing in front of us. Even with a glare on the bus windows I tried to take some pictures of the experience of driving through the Alps and its fabulous lakes. The destination of our trip was Hallstatt.  A tiny town with absolute stunning views!  Our short visit to Hallstatt included singing at the Lutheran Church of Hallstatt which is a well known landmark with its tall picked roof rising above the town. We then continued our trip to Saltzburg.  Here are some additional mountain pictures that I was able to capture on the way. Hallstatt is one of the places I plan to visit again and stay for at least a week if not more relaxing, looking and hiking at the mountains and enjoying the peace and quiet of the place.

Art Shows

I had been often told on many occasions and by many people that I need to keep selling my art as it is good and people will buy it.  In this post I would like to explain what are the pros and cons of going to art shows to sell your art. Shows are able to provide the artist the needed exposure and help in being notice.  Artist hopes to sell the art piece or at last meet a potential buyer during the show hoping that the person will call later and eventually make a purchase. Indoor shows are easy as they are usually cheaper, but are often juried and limit the number of art pieces to one or three. Let's say that you decided to participate, you pay the nonrefundable entrance fee, send photos of your art and your CV and you wait.  You got in?  Excellent, your entry fee did not become just the jury tax. You follow the instructions and bring your art to the gallery, you stick around and watch if there is any interest in your art.  If your painting was hang in the wr...

Venice - Mississauga Festival Choir Europe Tour 2017

First stop Venice.  This city of 118 islands. It feels like every inch of the land and the lagoon reclaimed space needed to be utilized to the fullest. Narrow water passages and even narrower walkways creates the unique atmosphere of Venice. Probably the only place on earth were bus is a boat, police is traveling by boat, and even ambulance is a boat. One of the things to notice about Venice, is the absence of trees and greenery.  Besides the numerous balcony gardens, there are no parks we were able to see in Venice.  The town is flooded numerous times during the year and any green space turned to swamp or a mud puddle.   Fun fact: The ground floor of all the buildings do not hold any living space. Fun Fact: At any given day, there are more tourists in the city than there are residents.
